VLC Keeps resizing on new window

Old VLC used to stay small like I liked it, I keep a window open sometimes for playing new music but the new one keeps resizing if I open a new window.
Am I doing something wrong? Or is this somehow a "Feature"?

I dont remember what version used to stay, probably sub 2.x but it has been bugging me so I decided to finally ask someone. Thanks!

So, am I seriously the only one on this forum who noticed this? Or is there no fix which is why no one is answering?

This is a bug, unfortunately, under very many bugs in Rincewind.
The only solution: go back to 2.0.8

ooh, thanks for that! Reverted to 2.0.8 and all is good, will keep an eye out for newer versions but for now I am happy happy happy

I have the same problem and am using 2.1.5, so has the bug come back, or is there a setting I'm missing?

Video | Always Fit Window has been both checked and unchecked; behavior occurs no matter what that setting is. I size the window the way I want, then open a new video, and VLC not only resizes to fit the video but places itself at the bottom right of the screen, with most of the window OFFSCREEN. Odd and extremely annoying.

I had this problem appear after updating from 2.1.5 to 2.2.0. I fixed it by resetting preferences to defaults, and setting it up again.

Not working. I upgraded to 2.2.0, have same problem, and tried unknownsoldier's solution, but no joy. I reset options to default, check Video | Always Fit Window, and doesn't matter--the program simply continues acting as if Video | Always Fit Window is unchecked, whether it is checked or not (especially ironic since if I close the program and restart, the option is checked even if it was formally unchecked at the time of close--yet it always behaves as if UNchecked!). 2.2.0 does this on two different machines--one with XP and one with Win7.

So: only solution is to go back to 2.0.8?
