vlc for ios 2.4.1 still have some real problems:

Postby chinamv » 14 Feb 2015 14:36

hi guys,

i am new to here and thanks videolan team's efforts to bring new version back.

now if u search in app store u can not find vlc, i guess apple will need more time to make it public in app store, but here the solution u can download it : in u purchased list, u will see vlc again, then click the cloud icon, vlc 2.4.1 will be installed in u ios device.

i am here to say some new problem in 2.4.1:

1. if i quick vlc, next time i open it again, it will always asking if send a report because unexpected exit. everytime u openit will ask u again. this same problem since 2.4.0 i found.

2. the font displayed while video playing is really bad, some kind of transparency and small. hard to be seen well. i have checked the font setting, it is same with the earlier version 2.3.0, i dont know why subtitle font went bad. this is a new problem on 2.4.0 and 2.4.1.

otherwise are fine and still playing dts well.

1) yes, every "force quit" is considered a crash now. This is due to the internal crash reporter and I'm not sure how to fix it yet.

2) is it with ASS subtitles or something else?

2.4.1 is not yet available in the norwegian store, but I downloaded it through the purchased list. When I try to play this fileImage
I get an error message saying that the codec is not supported: "VLC could not decode the format "a52" (A52 Audio (aka AC3)). MPEG AAC Audio works just fine.

VLC 2.4.1 on iPhone 6, iOS 8.1.3.

@dontomaso: this is the expected behavior in this release.

That's too bad. I was hoping to get rid of the VLC alternatives I have been forced to keep using the last months.

it is for both ass and srt. here the comparision with earlier 2.3 version, the font in 2.3 is truly white and sharp:

Yeah there is something wrong with the Subtitles in 2.4.1, here is a comparison (better with Fullscreen): http://imgur.com/a/Q05Ni (The font in the middle, that thing on the right is from the video)

The position changed slightly. Any maybe the thickness of the border. But what is the actual problem? Looks as clear/good as before for me.

The subtitles in Version 2.4.1 looks much worse and it's very striking while watching the video. Maybe you should try it by yourself then you will see it better.
Same Video with the same settings in vlc, but a diffrent version. (iPad Air 2 iOS 8.1.2)
It's a mkv file with ass subtitles.

Wow, you should report this on the bugtracker. This is probably a core important issue.

k
Das Problem habe ich auch trotz neue VLC iOS 2.5 beta. Es liegt klar auf der Hand VLC iOS passt die Auflösung der Untertiteln nicht richtig an.
