Which Audio Track belongs to which Audio Stream?

For questions and discussion that is NOT (I repeat NOT) specific to a certain Operating System.

Which Audio Track belongs to which Audio Stream?

Postby psychoacoustics » 21 Nov 2014 19:45

Hello at all, I don't know if I should make a feature request in the bug tracker of if there is a solution, I haven't found yet.

Problem is as follows:
Let's say we have a DVD playing, that contains multiple audio streams, like ac3, pcm or dca.
VLC will tell me the number of each stream (e.g. ac3 --> stream 4) - everything ok for this point.

But as you know, you can only select different audio tracks (like Track 1, Track 2, ...) in the menues.
In my opinion this is extremely annoying cause you don't know which stream belongs to which track :?
Especially DVDs contain numerous audio streams in different formats.

 Is there any possibilities to check which stream is playing at the moment? I would wish an information panel that tells me which Track belongs to which stream. For example: Track 1 is AC3 Stereo 320kbs [Stream #1], Track 2 is AC3/5.1 448kbs [Stream #5] and Track 3 is DCA/DTS 1536kbs [Stream #6].

Should I consider writing a feature request for this issue? I am using VLC for some years now and I always wondered why there's no more information on the specific audio tracks.
Or is there a specific solution to this problem :?:

Thanks for any information/help in advance

Or even better to display it in status bar :?:
Tools > Codec Information
An' if ain't broke, then don't try to fix it...
