VLC 2.1.5 plays only for a few seconds and restarts and agai

I am running Windows 8 Professional and I downloaded VLC media player version 2.1.5 Rincewind. While trying to watch a movie AVI from my USB, VLC played only 3 seconds the first movie and restarted the movie and so on, only 3 seconds. I tried with another AVI movie from my USB and it played up to 10 seconds and restarted and 10 seconds again and it restarted and so on. I tried watching the same movies with WIndows Media Player and it played fine. What's wrong with my VLC? help me please. Thanks

Having the same issue except it is with all file types I have tried, .mkv, .wmv, .mp4 etc. I have uninstalled/reinstalled and even gone back to a previous version. On win 7 64 bit.

try uninstalling the program using revo uninstaller. Revo uninstaller removes all traces of the program, and any custom settings. This can help if some settings, or registry values got corrupted. if you have any custom video codecs installed, you should remove those, as they may conflict with VLC. Also you may want to try scanning your computer for viruses, and other forms of malware. These things can cause all kinds of unpredictable things to happen.

If you're using a 64-bit version of VLC, try switching to the 32-bit version. the 32-bit version of VLC will work on all supported 64-bit operating systems. I use 2.1.5 32-bits on Windows 8.1 professional 64-bits, and I do not have this problem.

I tried this, both Revo and the 32 bit system. No help at all, the restarting starts as soon as the file is launched.

Ok... since those don't work, and you're using windows 7 (this also applies to windows 8, and 8.1)

Open a command prompt as admin, and run the command "sfc /scannow" without the quotes. Also run chkdsk on all drives with the /r switch. this will run 5 stages, instead of the normal 3, which includes a full surface scan of the drives..

if the files are downloaded, or moved from an unrecognized computer, your computer may be blocking the files. Right click the files and choose properties, then click the unblock button (if it appears)

You may also need to check your video, and sound card drivers to ensure they are up to date, as well as make sure you have all available windows updates.
