Stop VLC from trying to play next playlist item.

For questions and discussion that is NOT (I repeat NOT) specific to a certain Operating System.

Stop VLC from trying to play next playlist item.

Postby mrosche » 26 May 2014 16:26

Hi All,

I'm sure that this topic has been raised in the past but searching through thte forum is a bit tedius so I will ask the question again.

I have a playlist of http streams and my question is "How to I configure VLC to NOT try to play the next item in the playlist (either in gui or in a vlm.conf file) when the stream is not available?"

Example: I am restreaming from a tvheadend device via vlc and when the headend is not reachable, vlc keeps trying to open the next stream and then loops (I know that the looping can be turned off though)...is there a "knob" to tell vlc to simply retry the http connection after a specific time period (configurable would be nice. i.e. try 5 times every xx seconds and if no connection available, simply stop playing)?

Thanks!!

Hi,

I tried that...my command line is as follows:

/usr/bin/cvlc --play-and-stop --http-password=xxxxxx --ttl=2 -I http --miface=eth0 --extraintf=telnet --file-caching=1500 --network-caching=400 --rtsp-host=0.0.0.0:5554 --cr-average=10000 --clock-synchro=0 --clock-jitter=5000 --ignore-config --dscp=144 --telnet-port=4211 --telnet-password=xxxxxx --http-host=0.0.0.0 --http-port=8311 --vlm-conf=/home/vlc/vlm.conf

When no connection to the server is available in the vlm.conf, vlc tries to connect to the next one in the list and does not stop as hoped...in the log, I get such messages:

"Your input can't be opened. VLC is unable to open the MRL 'http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:yyyy/stream/channelid/492616045?ticket=E6FC74330BD532DF4D39762BB53A7F674EB19063'. Check the log for details.

Any other tips would be appreciated.

Marrk

VLM is not the playlist.

Hi,

Got your point :D

So my question remians...how to I get VLM to stop or retry http input streams and not start bombarding the server with connection requests when the service is not available?

Hi, mrosche.
You could try changing this in the Preferences.
Go to Tools > Preferences and, under Show settings, select the All box. In the left pane click on Playlist and in the right pane tick the box Play and stop.

Hi CloudStalker,

That works for playlists, unfortunately not for vlm.conf inputs...
