So this could be solved by M-Audio, if the chose to release proper drivers, right ?
The Binary Code Packages are available here: scule electrice
Unfortunately, I don't understand too much of these developer-level things.
What could I tell the M-Audio Support ?

@metadata: what's wrong with M-Audio? did you try a 2.1 Nightly Build of VLC to see if you still got an issue?

still happening

Postby stokestack » 21 Apr 2013 06:31

This is still happening under Mac OS 10.8.3 and VLC 2.0.6. The center channel is going to the left surround. I didn't bother trying to figure out where the other ones were going. The program material was a TV show, so I'm assuming it's normal 5.1.

Was there ever any fix for this?

UPDATE: I went into Audio/MIDI Setup and flipped the output format to "encoded digital audio". Got nothing (but didn't restart VLC). Switched it back to 8ch 24-bit (the default) and still got nothing, restarted VLC, and now the channels appear to be correct. The center channel sounded a bit overdriven, but turning VLC's volume control down helped. I don't see any percentage display in the VLC UI, however.

This is expected to be broken in 2.0.6, since the fix will be in VLC 2.1 (it requires too many changes to be backported to 2.0.x). Glad to hear that you got it working nevertheless :)

Still having the same issue. It occasionally sorts itself out after selecting HDMI and then back to HDMI (encoded) a few times.
or Sometimes, just restarting VLC, but some, it just plays the center channel out the LR surround speaker. I'm using 10.8.5 and actually I see there is a new update, so I'm going to try to update and see if 2.1.4 solves anything. But at least prior to that…. still the same issue.

I got the same problem. Why doesn't anyone solve this? I have the new Bose Lifestyle 535 5.1 surround system, and i use VLC Version 2.1.4 Rincewind (Intel 64bit) on my Mac Mini Mid 2010 with OS Maverick version 10.9.2. When I play movies, the center speaker sound comes from the rear left speaker. Someone please fix this. This thread is so old.

We found a problem with channel reordering which is fixed for the next upcoming minor release (2.1.5) or the next major release (2.2). Please try a nightly build from http://nightlies.videolan.org/build/mac ... l/?C=M;O=D, these should work fine now.

I see that this thread is rather old, but I am still having the same issue now -- running VLC 3.0.8 and various Mac OS versions (both 10.10.5 and 10.15.1). I have similar channel mapping issues in both 5.1 and 7.1 speaker configurations. For instance, Center channel audio is heard through the Back Left Surround speaker when setup for 7.1 Surround in Midi settings. I am experiencing this issue when I play .MKV files that contain DD, DTS, and .ac3 soundtracks and I am connecting to an Anthem AVM-60. I will do some more testing, but the issue might be limited to playback or .MKV files not sure yet.

Has anyone found a solution?

By the way this issue does seem to be with VLC since i can send pink noise to each speaker via MIDI setup and can also correctly play .ac3 audio in QuickTime player. But I really need to be able to have this working for .MKV files.

Thanks for any info!
