My wife's Yoga DVD plays in Power DVD but not in VLC. (VLC version 2.1.2 Rincewind.) VLC stays black with the orange cone logo. When I hit the Play triangle icon, nothing happens. When I try to open-play the Disc or its Video TS folder, nothing happens. But Power DVD plays it fine, with menus and everything.
My PC is Win XP Pro SP3 with 4GB RAM on a Dell Optiplex 755. The CD-DVD unit plays other discs OK (like app install discs, for example).
I haven't tried to play too many DVDs but recall this has happened before.
I also tried this trick suggested elsewhere as follows, but no luck:
Some clues:Tools -> Preferences -> Show settings: ALL
Input codecs -> Access modules -> DVD with menus
Untick the option "Start directly in menu".
Save the preferences then close and restart VLC.
1) Media Player Classic - Home Cinema 2011 build no. 1.5.0.2827 plays the DVD fine, with menus and everything.
2) If I open ImgBurn, it sees the DVD in my DVD unit, but if I try to make an Image from the Disc, I get an ImgBurn error message - "This disc is copy protected! Copyright Protection System Type: CSS/CPPM. Sorry, ImgBurn cannot read copy protected discs. ..."
3) Windows MediaPlayer also cannot play the disc. It skips a few chapters and plays audio only.
So, why won't VLC play the DVD? Thanks.
