Can't play matroska files with this version.
I've tried with Divx and MPEG-2 matroska files that work fine in 0.8.2

Hello happy people,

Using the 0.8.4-test1 release as my streaming server with the http interface, I ran through some 'problems'
Config: Mandriva 2006.0 Cooker
VLC 0.8.4-test1 compiled by hand

first, spaces are not allowed in a file name (this was done with 0.8.2, ins't it ?)
I managed to put it back in the sources, and now it's ok, at least on my linux (don't know for windows)
can post a .diff if needed, but it's only a matter of adding a '\' before spaces in the filename

second, I need to be able to change audio tracks and subtitles languages during streaming (I'm fond of japanese anime, with subs in english, but when starting the video, the language is the default one (english) and no subs on the scren...)
my first though was to add '--audio-language ja' (or jpn) and '--sub-language en' in the command line, but that doesn't work if the tracks aren't named in a correct way...
will there be any possibility in the http interface to change audio and subs on-the-fly ?
I did some mods on the macro files (.c and .h) to add two commands that allows to cycle through audio and subs tracks, if needed I can post them somewhere

Some H.264 playback problems here. Specs:

System: eMac 1.25Ghz, 1GB RAM
File: x264 High Profile, mkv container

Problem:

1. Audio is fine, video is choppy. A quick check on Activity Monitor shows 50-60% CPU usage so it seems like the computer is powerful enough to handle the file, so VLC must be choking on it somehow.

2. Occasional random crashes when seeking.

Glad to see I can actually play back H.264 High Profile on the Mac finally. Keep working at it.

The track cycling was developed for the webinterface of Freeplayer, and is not in use by VLC's own webinterface atm. If you change this, then we more then welcome these changes.

Where? What dialog box are you filling in?

The add dialog box in the web page you have when connecting to your stream server (for example, http://localhost:8080)
If you enter a filename or directory with space in it, the playlist will show the correct filename, but in parenthesis just near appears the filename VLc will use
e.g: I enter /home/user/Film/Bleach 51.avi in the 'Add' input box
I click Add button, and in the playlist appears:

And if I click 'Start' to play the video, VLC tries to load '/home/user/Film/Bleach ' which, by definition does not exist...

I clean the code a lil' bit (did some other tests meanwhile) and I send this ASAP
but I would like the http interface to be able to give the audio and subs tracks numbers, because for now the change is made by cycling through all the tracks, even the 0 (Disabled) one
I want to have a direct selection on the web page, instead of my actual buttons that simple give a 'cycle' command... but for that I have to spend some more time on it...

The behaviour of the parsing of the string given in "Add" was change when Meuh add the rpn macro add.

I'm don't completly agree with thoses change and i'll try to find a better solution at some point. In the meantime you can protect the name with a \ like you found or by putting them between ' (but not " which is a pita i think).

The escaping by \ is not optimal in my opinion because then under windows you ca't copy directly a path. you have to change all the \ to \\.

Selecting "Always On Top"...well if you have VLC using a de-interlace option, it doesn't stay on top.

Thanks a lot, disable "float32" fixes the problem!
Still "DirectX" somehow is too loud, but MUCH better than before.
"Win32 WaveOut" works fine!

If 24/32bit fixed point doesn't create this terrible sound, I'd be okay

maybe the best solution would be a list of several output-formats, like:

- 16bit fixed point
- 24bit fixed point
- 32bit fixed point
- 32bit floating point

and so on ... (maybe with default setting to 16bit fixed, so nobody complains about distorted sounds)

@theigorway@yahoo.com: your posting is useless if you don't tell us what you did to crash VLC. Anyway, this looks like a broken preferences file. Delete both org.videolan.vlc.plist and the VLC-folder in ~/Library/Preferences and try again.

WMV3 is already supported on Windows (via external codecs).

I have a problem playing some Divx with this new release.
Video is choppy, with lots of macro blocs until I select a deinterlace mode (Video->Deinterlace->Bob for ex)
Moreover I can't save this setting, when I restart VLC deinterlace is always turned off, and when I open a 2nd Divx I must manually switch between modes otherwise video remains choppy.

Some Divx still play fine, and I never had any problem with VLC 0.8.2.
