My apologies if ths topic is covered in one of the dozens of similar posts, but I have not found one that applies exactly to my set-up.
I have VLC 2.1.2 on a Mac mini (which has no internal optical drive) and play DVDs on a LaCie external drive. Commercial DVDs play correctly in the Apple DVD player. In VLC, the playback is impossibly disjointed and stuttering. Is there a solution? Thank you in anticipation.

PS: I have found the (provisional) answer: it is a bug in v. 2.1.2. The DVDs play perfectly welli n VLC 2.1.1.
