VLC streaming to Xbox 360?

First off, never done streaming. Ever.

So, how do I stream a file from my computer, to my Xbox 360?

Notes: I am on a Mac. 10.9

The Xbox is using the internet via an Ethernet cord. Not sure if that would affect anything.

They use the same internet router/connection.

I dont have any experience with the Xbox, but know, that xbox is able to playback wmv and mp4.
What happens if you use the vlc built in streaming/transcoding wizard, choose your file, then choose stream and transcode video + audio to mp4 via http, then point your xbox video player to the IP and port of VLC ?
