Sync VLC players

I'm not sure where to post this, so I hope this is okay. Me and my friend likes to watch movies together. But we are on opposite side of the world, so we need away to sync our VLC players with each other. So far we counted down from 3, and hit play at the same time. But we need a better way, since sometimes we need to brb and pause in the middle of the movie and that can cause us to go out of sync.
