Synology DS File with VLC can not play AVI

Hi,

since the latest version of Synologys' DS File it is capable of opening VLC when you select a video file from the NAS. The problem is most AVI files won't play until I download them to my iPhone. MP4 and WMV work perfect, but just a few AVI files are playable. MKV and TS (from Dreambox) don't work either. It just opens VLC and the screen stays black. Hitting play thereafter doesn't work too... Are you aware of this? Or is it a problem with my NAS? I'll pay you guys 10 bucks if you can fix this waiting for this since I got my NAS a year ago and now we're on the home straight!

Is anybody able to play MKV or AVI from his Synology Diskstation directly using the latest version of DS File (4.4) when you DO NOT download them at first? I'm not sure at the moment if it's a problem of DS File or VLC...

Smells like a DS File. Since I don't have access to a Synology device (QNAP here), I can't try to reproduce. Sorry.

Mind checking with them?

Maybe the issue is just about AVI repairing over HTTP?

That would be a reasonable explanation indeed. I don't have a broken enough AVI file to test with at the moment, though.

Is there anything I can do to help you fix this Issue? Creating logs or something? I don't know exactly how DS File calls VLC or the other supported players, but I'll open a ticket at synology, maybe they can tell me. Do you really think they pass a HTTP url from DS File to VLC? SMB support in VLC iOS would fix this issue anyway - any news about that?

The TS streams which don't play neither are recordings from a Dreambox. So I don't think those are corrupt.

any success so far? I got the same problem: get only the audio when I want to watch a dreambox recording (.ts-file) in the synology vlc plugin.

Anybody? I have exactly the same problem with Synology DS File. When i click on the .avi file VLC opens up but stays black, No sound no video.
Other video files are working great.

@stefaaaan: is this issue still present with the latest version of VLC for iOS released earlier this week?
