Is it possible to show two subtitle/caption tracks at once?

Postby Marc Kupper » 12 Oct 2013 22:17

Is it possible for the VLC media player to show two subtitle/closed caption tracks at the same time?

I watch quite a few foreign language films and am nearly deaf meaning I rely on closed captions/subtitles. Sometimes I run across a DVD where the conversations are in a mix of English and other languages. The DVD will offer subtitles of the foreign language parts for the hearing audience. It does not show subtitles when someone is speaking in English. Many of these DVDs also offer a Closed Caption track but often the captions are only for the English parts and will show "[Speaking French]" if a conversation switches to French.
When using a DVD player attached to a TV set this works well. The DVD player handles the the subtitles and the TV set has the Closed Caption decoder meaning I get to see both the subtitles and close caption at the same time.

It seems the VLC player can only show one subtitle track at a time but maybe someone knows of a trick that'll cause it to display two or more tracks at the same time.
