iOS app not compatible with NAS apps

Postby chaos2oo2 » 22 Jul 2013 18:45

Hi,

I've got a Synology NAS and they provide apps to access the NAS (like DS file). There you can select a video file and the app provides you popup selection with which app you want to open the file. However, DS file does tell me that it can not open the file because no app is installed. So either you do not register the file extension VLC can handle or DS file does not recognize the VLC app. What to do?

Kind regards,
Michael

What's the file extension for media provided by your NAS?

avi, wmv, mkv, ts, mp4, flv - none works...

Ace Player and GPlayer are recognized by DS file, but hardly play anything. OPlayer is suggested by synology. They are telling me, that my installed apps are responsible which file I can open. So this would mean the VLC app must register them somehow.

A option to access a windows file service, Mac file service or NFS would be cool

Probably a mimetype issue then...

This cannot be a mime type problem. When I choose a file the players above can be selected from the list (if installed of course). VLC is not among them to select...

here you go:
http://developer.apple.com/library/ios/ ... ports.html

but maybe it's a stream or something that DS file delivers and that's not handled by vlc on ios then...

yeah, I suspect it requests a webdav:// URL which isn't exposed (nor supported) by VLC at the moment.

I tried to contact the manufacturer of the NAS app today and will retry tomorrow morning.
