True Randomize option in VLC

Postby Chromatic » 12 Jul 2013 07:28

Quite simply I would like VLC to have an option (button).. ie: Right click playlist, choose Randomize playlist --

This option would simply randomize the playlist in a true random order, then play the playlist. If the "loop-all" button is pressed, when all the files have been played in the playlist it would randomize the playlist again, and repeat.

Or -- the same result -- simply have a randomize option that plays each file in the playlist in a random order, but never plays a file in the playlist but one time until ALL files in the playlist have been played once. Once all files have been played one time, it can then be allowed to play that file again.

As it currently stands the random button is not truly random -- It plays many of the same files over and over again before it ever gets to other files in the same playlist. For video's this is a pretty standard feature as opposed to music where the duration of song doesn't make a huge difference if it is played several times before another file is played.

This is how a 'random' feature should work intuitively,..

If anyone can bring this feature about with any measure -- please respond, or email -- (It really needs to be in the next release, or a nightly beta release) -- I would be willing to contribute to making this feature available in the VLC program.

VLC is a fantastic open source program,.. this is just one feature that it lacks and doesn't seem inherently difficult to implement.

Any responses -- or beta releases that have it included are very much welcome and encouraged!

Thank you!
