Issue with .m3u and VLC 2.0.6 and 2.0.7

Both 2.0.6 and 2.0.7 will play .m3u playlists just fine, but at least 2/3 of the time a song won't play all the way through and VLC will skip to the next item in the .m3u playlist. This can happen anywhere in the playing of one of the items.

Have others experienced this and is there a workaround?

As a followup, I've noticed that the pattern seems to be this: When VLC starts playing songs from within a .m3u file (whether it's the first one or not), within the first 10 minutes or so VLC will stop and skip to the next song. It will then play perfectly from then on, until I hit the "stop" button and restart at some later time (immediately later or a long time). Then VLC will do it again...stopping someplace within the 1st 10 minutes of a track and skipping to the next track. Happens every time.
