Can VLC auto - load youtube URLs

Postby Chrisi22 » 17 May 2013 03:05

In VLC 2.0.6, Must the Youtube video address (currently in browser address bar) always be copied manually into the Open Media > Network address bar?

For instance, SMPlayer will already have the URL of the page / video in your browser's address bar, entered into its "Enter a URL" box, when you click the icon or use shortcut keys in SMPlayer.

Is there a specific reason why VLC devs don't think automatically entering into VLC the URL of the video you just clicked is a good idea?

Other question: Is it possible to add an icon for the Open Network Screen (Open Media) option, on the toolbar or control bar? I don't find a way to do that.

Thanks.

If you press Ctrl+V in VLC, the "Open URL" small dialog box appears also with URL from the clipboard.

Thanks. That's quicker. No way to add those shortcut / functions as icons to toolbar / control bar? I'd think that would be one used a LOT. Way more than many options available to customize the control bar.

I can remember Ctrl + V, but, uh... other members of the house may not.

Sometimes 2 clicks (Media > Open Location from clipboard) is too many. That is why I use hotkeys mostly. You can open a ticket with a feature request to add a new button among "Toolbar elements" available for customization of interface (Tools > Customize Interface...): http://trac.videolan.org/vlc/newticket
