How to delete multimedia information

Postby Yokorto_Takito » 13 Mar 2013 20:59

Hi
First of all, sorry for my bad english, is not my native language and I've never studied it
My Windows is XP Service Pack 3, 32 bits, and I'm running 2.0.1 Twoflower version of VLC

I have downloaded a few episodes of anime, and I have never seen like that before. This file contents multimedia information, and I don't know how to delete it. The file name in the folder is just: '01' (without '' obviously, and with .mp4 hidden extension). But when I click on it, I see this file name in the top of the VLC window:

I search in the menu, and found this:
Image

I delete both lanes ('Tittle' and 'Codified by'), and then just click on 'Save metadata'. Nothing changes. I close the program, and click on '01' file again, and this multimedia information is still there. Why VLC don't delete this info? Maybe is not possible? Maybe I'm doing anything wrong?

Thanks for the help, and again excuse me for my english

Metadata changes are saved only for actual playlist purposes. You cannot change metadata stored in multimedia file from VLC. You need to use some dedicated SW for that. But you can save your playlist with edited metadata in XSPF file.
VLC menu: Media > Save Playlist to File... (Ctrl+Y)

At least filename in title bar is possible: viewtopic.php?f=14&t=98333#p361987

Hi mederi
Thanks for the info. If I understand what you said, it means that this info cannot be deleted, and I can only configure VLC in order not to show this info, right?
In that link, I have read the post but it's hard for me to understand, cause english is not my language. But I think its not the same I want to do

You talk about dedicated SW. What dedicated SW means? Unless SW means Sword, or something like that =P
Maybe is a plugin I can use to erase this information that the file has in the screenshots?

All right, once more :)
Do this: play your film in VLC > edit metadata in Media Information in VLC - delete title > Save Metadata > stop and play your film => you should see new title - "01.mp4" filename in a title bar of VLC window. If you close VLC, your changes are gone.
VLC Solution: save your playlist with metadata changes: Media > Save Playlist to File... > XSPF. Next time you play that saved playlist (.xspf) in VLC, you should see filename again instead of original metadata title stored inside your 01.mp4 file.

Tools > Preferences > ( Show settings = All ) > Input/Codecs: Change title according to current media $
With this setting you should always see filename in title bar of VLC window.

For permanent changes in metadata in mp4 file you should use some dedicated software for that (sorry for my bloody acronym SW :)). Perhaps somebody else here will help you and recommend you some good mp4 metadata editor/remover. Without remuxing of mp4 file if possible.

--- EDIT ---
Right now I am testing what I have written here. It seems, that not everything is true and VLC does not work the way I have thought. I will let you know.

Hahah ok, now I understand you
Sorry dude, it's hard for me to know what all of you are saying, and I need 'basic language', you know.. really sorry

I won't apply first solution, cause I never save playlist. And I could, cause most of the .mp4 files I have are anime series, subtituled by fansubs. But you know, I preffer to manually click on each file, I only have playlist on .mp3 albums, in order to keep the original order of the songs
The second solution worked fine. I must admit I never used this 'all' of Preferences. The simple preferences were enough for me, I didn't even know they were advanced settings there, and of course I couldn't have ever imagine that instead of '$Z' I had to set it to '$' =P

I will search some metadata remover, just to delete that info, useless for me (I like to keep all files clean of metadata, maniatic mode: ON). If I find a program that works fine, I will post it here, so other people with the same 'problem' can use it too
SW = software, ok. I know only a few acronyms, like ofc, btw, ftw, typical acronyms of multiplayer games =P

Thanks a lot, mederi, you have helped me =)
And again, once more, excuse my english, I'm bad with it

O.K. It is clear now. Original metadata tag has more power and always overwrites the appropriate tag from saved playlist. I do not think there is an option in VLC preferences to change this behaviour :(

Wow, I came back to post about this program
I have tried two (Don't-remeber-what Video Pro and MetaTouch or something like that), and both didn't work. Finally I found this, and yes, it works fine. I have read about it, and its seems capable of remove metadata from a lot of extensions, .mp4 included. So finally I can remove this useless info from this files =)

It's nice, cause I have read about people that are trying to reproduce this files on a DvD, or from console, and things like that, and metadata changes the order of the files, cause are organized with that metadata, not using file name. Well.. problem solved, thanks a lot mederi
Again, always, excuse my english
