Audio Issue

i just recently ripped "pirates of the Caribbean" to my HDD. the issue is that i ripped the video fine and one of the audio formats is where i have trouble. the audio formats are regular Dolby digital and RAW Dolby digital. the regular DD plays fine but is only 640kbps; i wish to be able to play the RAW DD format because its 24bit @ 6,912kbps!!! .when i try to switch the format to the RAW DD i get the message that VLC cannot support the audio format and labels it "undf". i used media inspector and it says the audio codec is PCM, so if anyone knows of a fix for this or a way to convert the audio file to a format that VLC can read i would appreciate it.

if you read this i did some further research and the format is called Linear PCM and VLC cannot play this. can someone suggest what i need to do or who i should report this to so VLC can play this incredible format

VLC should be able to play LPCM audio.

Please open Tools -> Messages (set Verbosity to 2) before you start the playback and then paste the full resulting log here or on Pastebin.com if it's too long.

Also upload a short sample of a problematic file to either http://streams.videolan.org/upload/ or to EmbedUpload.com, the latter will upload the file for you to several other hosts and then post the link to the file here.

Cut it with DGsplit and read here about how to do it:

50 MB max should be enough.

here is the info from the message window. i cant use that split program because im using OSX. is there another option to split the video so i can get you all a sample. oh and could my problem be that maybe MakeMKV could show me that Audio option but didn't really rip it properly?

To help you, we need messages, to completely understand what your problems is.
To fix this, please be sure before you start the playback to:

1. Open: Tools -> Messages.
2. Set Verbosity to 2
3. Start playback to reproduce your issue
4. Save text in a file or copy into clipboard
5. Then paste the full resulting log here between [​code]and[​/code] (or use Pastebin.com if it's too long)

Also don't forget to name your Operating System and provide the VLC media player version.

I have found your sample but it's a bit short and the regular AC-3 audio from this sample is not playing either, or maybe is it from a silent part ?

Please cut a larger sample, 50 MB max will be enough, with MKVToolnix using the Split feature from the Global tab and make sure there is actually some sound in the part you will split.

MKVtoonix worked perfectly. the Linear PCM audio is a huge file. i cut a 50m piece with both audio tracks about 15seconds long let me know if you want a different piece. thanks again for all the help

in addition i just ripped A Clock Work Orange and it had the same type of LPCM formate. same ploblem VLC cant play it. im using MakeMKV to rip the movie could this be the problem?

When remuxing Blu-rays containing LPCM audio with MakeMKV, I would not be able to playback the LPCM audio track using anything, including VLC on PC, Popcorn Hour c200, Boxee Box, etc. MakeMKV sets the Codec ID to "A_MS/ACM" which is a very uncommon codec. To solve this problem, open MKVmerge GUI, and go to File -> Header Editor. Then go to File -> Open and browse to your MKV. Scroll down to the audio track that contains the LPCM audio and change the Codec ID from "A_MS/ACM" to "A_PCM/INT/LIT". Then File -> Save. Your MKV will now contain an LPCM audio track that should be compatible with any software or hardware capable of playing MKV files... Hope this helps...

Just so you know, a fix is being developped to support those codecs without remuxing and will be commited soon. Thanks for reporting.

I have a few movies that I tried to convert with makemkv that have LPCM audio tracks such as crimson tide. When I used the header editor, it would playback the sound but it was so distorted it was impossible to listen to.
