VLC Blackmagic Decklink

Postby jmggs » 21 Jan 2013 11:33

Hi!

There is any chance to use decklink output (SDI, HDMI, Analogue Video) with VLC?
I think this is a must have feature for so good player.
There is any development on this? :)

Thanks

There is a version under development, but never merged.

I'd love to test and really need this functionality. We want to pick up a videostream with VLC and play it through the Decklink card. Have a Decklink Duo, VLC 2.1.5 and run W7 Ultimate 64. However... I'm not a developer. What do I need to do with the files? Just copy them in the VLC folder?

Put the first dll file in the plugins/video_output folder in the VLC installation directory.

I've copied the 'libdecklinkoutput_plugin.dll' to C:\Program Files\VideoLAN\VLC\plugins\video_output (I'm running the 64bit version of VLC), rebooted and started VLC player.
Then I navigated to Extra>Settings>Video and tried to select the Blacklink Duo in the pulldown menu 'Output'.

But it's not mentioned in the list? What am I doing wrong?

Oh, it probably only works with the 32-bit version of VLC (which works fine on 64-bit Windows).

Uninstalled the 64bit VLC, installed 32bit version, copied 'libdecklinkoutput_plugin.dll' to C:\Program Files (x86)\VideoLAN\VLC\plugins\video_output. Rebooted.
Still no possibility to select Decklink. Do I select the card at pulldown 'Output' or at pulldown 'DirectX'? Neither offer something called Decklink or Blackmagic...

It is also not mentioned in the list of plugins?

There may be a better way to do this, but it looks like the plugins cache needs to be regenerated. You can re-run the vlc-2.1.5 installer after you've copied the plugin in place, and it should regenerate plugins.dat, after which the plugin should show up in the Output dropdown.

Done it. But nope... :-(
Checked plugins.dat in Worpad, libdecklinkoutput_plugin.dll is not mentioned?

Hi ywlke,

thank you for this great news about Decklink output support for windows. I use Decklink cards with VLC in linux without any problems.

Unfortunately, I have the same problem as richard.vanderveen reported. I don't see Decklink in the output module pulldown. I tried to reinstall VLC 2.1.5, deleted plugins.dat. The installer recreated plugins.dat but decklink module is not mentioned there.

Well...alright, this unofficial build should work: https://www.dropbox.com/s/44iiwxpc1ys93 ... k.zip?dl=0
I do not provide any support for this build and it is provided for testing purposes only. The link is subject to be removed at any time.

I've tried your build. Unfortunately no video plays if the decklink output is active...

@TobiWan: did you also set audio to DeckLink? (The VLC plugin requires this...I don't know why.) What does your messages log show on debug?
@richard.vanderveen: No clue. I don't currently have a DeckLink to test with on anything.

Thanks, setting the audio output also to decklink works. The audio has interruptions, but fortunately I don't need the audio on SDI. If I want to play another video it does not work and holds the last frame of the previous one. After a restart of VLC it works again. Same if I stop and press play again.
