There are several ways how to load subtitles in VLC. Try drag&drop method of IDX file over playing film. IDX + SUB is a VobSub couple, so they have the same name and stay together.

I have a latest VLC (2.0.5) and I started to wonder that is it possible to automatically open subtitles if they're located in the same directory as video file?

Like this:

Video.mp4
Video.srt

Is it possible that VLC finds that there's subtitle available and automatically opens it when I start to play a video? Or is there a hotkey available which opens this subtitle file?

Like this:
Video.mp4
Video.srt
This is the default behaviour so it should work already.
