Set location of VLC log file in Preferences but no good

Postby booga » 02 Nov 2012 03:32

Hello,
Using version 2.0.2 TwoFlower.

In Tools/Preferences (Ctrl-P), I turned on All settings, then went to Advanced/Logging. For log filename, I set it to C:\Users\booga\Desktop\vlc_log.txt (which I've just created).

I then tried to use a subtitle file in the IDX format, and it tells me to look at the log for details. But I looked at the log but it's empty.

Please help.

Make sure you have the appropriate user rights to write into this specific location or use another one where you are allowed to write to.

I have exactly the same problem on a Windows PC. I set the path and created the log file using VLC (2.05) as booga did and set the verbosity to 2 based on another post I found. After trying to play an RTSP URL the message "VLC is unable ....... Check the log for details." appeared but the log file is empty. Is there something besides permissions that would prevent log entries from being added to the log file. Thanks
