No video playback after upgrade, mp4v support error

Using openSUSE Linux 11.4, Gnome 2.30.2.

Today, I upgraded vlc by:

# zypper up vlc-beta

6 packages were upgraded from the vlc repo.

The vlc version was 2.1.0-git Rincewind (sorry, can’t remember what was the previous one). Whichever video file was opened, the same error popped up (translating from Russian):

No suitable decoding module found.
VLC does not support mp4v audio or video format. Unfortunately, you cannot fix it.

Then, only sound playback continued with the cone instead of video.

OK, I reverted to the stable version by

#zypper install vlc

confirming deinstallation of the beta version.

Now, the version is 2.0.1 Twoflower, but I still experience the same error. Same files can be opened using Totem without problems.

Is there any way to make vlc play back video files?

I'm having same problem. Since I updated, I have audio and No Video.
I get Error: "No suitable decoder module: (red text)
VLC does not support the audio or video format "h264". Unfortunately there is no way for you to fix this."
EVERY TIME it's a different 'format' name or number.
I've tried the beta and have 'downgraded' my vlc on openSuSE 12.1 and KDE 4.8.4 (updated from kde, not opensuse)

Why? I love,, loved my VLC on Linux.

So, this is what I did to resolve my 'no video format' issue.
I tried several combinations of update, removal, reinstall, beta etc, But this is what Worked for me 3am est on 09 July 2012.
Yast2 > Package Management > deinstall ALL of packmans vlc, codec, libs... ALL
Reboot
Yast2 > Repositories > Disable and remove Auto Refresh on Packman Repo ( i didn't remove packman repos, just 'disabled' )
( this is the vlan repo i used in this working example... i know there are others, but this Worked: http://download.videolan.org/pub/vlc/SuSE/12.1/ )
Yast2 > search > vlc > installed ( i chose nothing else, only what choosing vlc 'auto installed' and i accepted )
Finish..
At first, in konqueror 'open with' did not show vlc, so i was about to reboot, but check again a minute later and vlc was a choice.

Worked, I can now view the videos this last update did not allow.. Guess something went wrong with update that even beta didn't resolve. .. oh, and the the audio still works.. all's good.

I had the same problem with VLC.
I have updated libavutil51 and libswscale2 packages in Yast software management and that solved the problem (just let Yast solve the dependencies).

The updated and removed packages:
