30 channel Mosaic - can it be done with VLC 2.0?

Postby cranberryuplink » 15 Jun 2012 04:08

Hello All,

I have been given an assignment to develop a 30-channel mosaic

The channels(video streams) are all upd mpeg4 and on a single wire (about 70mbps) or 1.6mbps per stream. All standard definition stuff.
The display will be a 52" LCD in a broadcast control room.

Is this possible with VLC 2.0.x and enough processor/memory? Linux or Windows 7

The wiki mosaic documentation assumes a great deal about the users programming ability and appears to span many revisions - some which no longer work.
I see many who ask questions about Mosaic are given the Wiki link, patted on the head and sent away with only a single reply.

So, here's what I need:
Required PC hardware (proc, OS, mem, video)
Instructions on how to build a working 30-channel mosaic display Or,
A working template for VLC 2.0.x

Yes it is, but it needs a lot of CPU.
