DVB streaming on Windows

Postby barsk » 31 Jul 2005 11:46

Well, it has been mentioned before. But I must really stress the importance of this feature. In Sweden all analog broadcasts will cease in 2007. So all we get is digital broadcasts, i.e DVB. I see this is happening in other countries in Europe too.

So for VLC to be useful in Windows, DVB support is an absolute must.
I see that support is available on Linux, but that is not an option for me since all my HTPC stuff is on Windows.

With BDA drivers now maturing only one API needs to be met, and that will cover all the DVB cards out there (as far as I can understand it).

Please consider raising the priority for fixing this issue. VLC sure looks like a nice program. But currently unusable (as a streming server) for me and all other DVB user on Windows.

Regards
Kristian

Don't count on it. With the current understaffed develop crew of VLC, this most likely will take quite a bit of time still.
Don't use PMs for support questions.

Try TSReader for windows. It works absolutely comfortable together with VLC. With the integrated Control-Server you can easely remote control your streamingserver.

Yes, but how do I create the TS file to start with? Can I do it on the fly from the DVB card? It is streaming live TV that I need VLC for.

Playing recorded ts files is not a problem. I just share the recorded TS files and play them in zoomplayer or whatever.

Please correct me if I have misunderstood anything here!

Well I don't know TSReader but other Tools simply send the TS stream to some TCP/IP UDP port (unicast and multicast) where you can connect VLC to, e.g. vlc.exe udp://@:2910. Then some control application is used to talk to the Tool to switch channels - vlc is left untouched.

What DVB card do you have?

A TwinHan Visionplus DVB-T
It's a PCI card with optional CI interface for a smartcard (currently not used).

For the moment I am using MediaPortal for TV viwing. That tool does not currently support streaming unfortunaltely.
