Mac 2.0 Fullscreen Controller WAY too large

Postby aitte » 12 Mar 2012 22:16

Hello!

VLC 2 looks great so far but the fullscreen controller is just RIDICULOUS. It obscures everything! Could you please add a scale slider in the preferences for the Mac OS X interface?

Gotta agree there.
I got to the point where I disabled the fullscreen controller altogether cause it bugged me that whenever I hit the mouse, a huge portion of my 1280x800 screen would be filled with the fullscreen controller.

In the nightly builds, you can collapse the playlist by clicking on the playlist button. It's worth checking out.

They're talking about the fullscreen controller, not the main controller/playlist.

Perhaps a scaled down version of the controller should be provided on screen resolutions of a certain width and lower.

You can make an official feature request and assign it to "Interface: Mac OS X" for the component if you want here: https://trac.videolan.org/vlc/

We have a ticket for it now:

I agree, the fullscreen controller is insanely large, it is gross, ugly and insulting in that it looks like it was made for retards. I avoid Windows software to avoid this 'made for retards' interface look and feel. Ditto other aspects of the interface, I hope you have the good sense to review these new changes in 2.0.1 and return the users sense of dignity, otherwise I for one will NOT be using this software any longer.

You really sound like a troll... The main interface look like other mac applications, and clearly not like Windows interfaces...

Well, Jean-Baptiste, I ask you to kindly analyse and think clearly about what I wrote because I'm not a troll. I'm trying to make a point, sorry if it's not clear enough for you.

I think this is enough to stop reading your prose...
Especially, since you do not plug 2 seconds your brain to understand the change

But you go further:
I avoid Windows software to avoid this 'made for retards' interface look and feel.
Which shows you do not understand Windows software at all and that you are a troll...

But then further:
Ditto other aspects of the interface
The rest of the interface adheres to the Mac OS guidelines and the new way of doing mac applications.

Not to mention that usually Windows Apps are 100x times more configurable than Mac ones, and that is why people prefer Macs.

Hello,

Just a quick update on this matter:

As of git commit 81162e722f2f92e6415d7947416823486992b073, the big fullscreen controller appearance is limited to the 27" iMac it was developed on and external screens with the same resolution (a screen with >= 2560 px). This change will be effective as of 2.0.2, which will be released shortly.

A forthcoming release will include an option (we cannot add user-visible strings at this point) to enable it on smaller screens, as desired by quite a few Mac Book Air users.

I'd love to have the option to just have the normal windowed controls appear at the bottom instead of the full screen controller.

Windows controls are less obtrusive, offer more options and the bar is far easier to hit, since the full screen controller bar's clickable area does actually start above the bar, but doesn't extend all the way to the bottom. Aaand the windowed bar is longer, making skipping far more exact.
