Video Stuttering while using both 2.0 and 1.1.11 HELP!!

Postby skullkrack » 21 Feb 2012 12:18

I dont know how to even start this but ever since i put my new rig together: i7 2600k, evga z68 ftw, 16gb corsair vengeance, evga gtx 570 hd, tagan 1100w psu,
I cannot watch HD movies using VLC player. they stutter and stop and all together just suck to watch. I've tried other programs (sorry) and they work even worse. I use the nvidia control panel
to select specific settings but have tried turning it off, custom settings, global settings, you name it.
I dont know what else to try. Been down the road of changing all the video outputs around, new codecs, changing hdmi cords to my DENON AV amp.
I just need to know where to go from here, maybe even where to start. Thanks for any replies because they are greatly needed :D

and yes my power settings are set to full and maximum performance everywhere, in windows, on my graphics cards, anywhere i could think of.

So I made a little progress which i wanted to document. I used another thread that you (JB kempf) are posting in that relates to the video stuttering and I set my threads to 4 in the ffmpeg module. Seems to help a little.
Also I switched to the direct3d video output which has the best quality so far. Dont really know what else to do from here but I am on the right track somewhere so hope to here from you guys soon. Thanks :D

since there's not much feedback goin on here i'm just going to note my progress here and keep track for my own sake.
Swithched to shark007 codecs and have experienced a major increase, but most of all the best thing i've done so far is to switch back to windows media player.
dont seem to have any of the problems that vlc gives me.
playing with differenct codec settings still but have yet to fully set up sharks codecs.

I still find that .96 (for example, or .9x generally) is the last version that can play dvd's smoothly. 2.0 is still too much like watching a flip book animation. I don't know what it is, but it's unusable. My system specs are awesome, it's something in vlc. Vlc has been the joke on slashdot, incredible new features, but it can't do the basics.

VLC cannot use external codecs, so it isn't a codec issue.

so i found out what it was..... so stupid really.... wasnt the players or codecs or anything. My tv is a newer generation samsung, about 2 years old, and it has that 240mhz refresh. well it was set on smooth and clear, I never checked just standard setting. works so beautifully now. sorry for your stuttering in vlc, but i dont think its worth it compared to wmp. its just so easy and i dont use any of the complicated settings in it. good luck to those in need.
