Video get laggy/choppy on my second screen

Postby Aafloey » 25 Sep 2011 18:20

Okey, I got a brand new computer with the best parts theese days. I have 16 gb ram and the best nvidia 580 gpu card.

And my problem is: I have my computer connected to two screens, the primary screen is my 24" benq lcd, and secondary is my 37" lcd tv.
All my video files plays nice, but when i drag the vlc player and use full screen on my 37" tv, the video gets laggy/choppy. If I drag the vlc player back to my primary screen, the video runs perfect again.

Does anyone know why this happens?

Look at the logs...

Are you using the latest driver?

Tools -> Messages (set Verbosity to 2) will show VLC messages.

There aren't any sync issues messages in the log.

Does it help if you change video output module?

AFAIK only working solution seems to be changing the primary monitor. But in a long run it isn't very nice to do that for every movie moment.

I did not have this problem on my older computer, so it is not the monitor that is the problem.

Ok, I have now tried another player: Divx Player. Same problem there. But, with windows media player, everything runs smooth.

It isn't a monitor related issue. Issue is the primary monitor option in Windows that does something to playback acceleration in case the video is played in non-primary monitor.

It seems like I found a solution to this, in the Nvidia controll panel and on the settings for my second monitor, the setting on hz is set to 29... When i change it to 60hz, the video is running smooth :)

Hello :),

I'm also experiencing the same or a similar issue. I know this thread is older, but I thought it might contain some relevant information - that's why I didn't make a new thread.

I have a 27" main screen and a 40" secondary TV attached via HDMI. However: whenever I display video on the secondary screen in fullscreen mode - it starts to lag. The only exception is: if I turn off Aero Glass. Then suddenly there's no lag in fullscreen.

I'm on a core2 quad, 8gb ddr2 ram, nvidia gtx560. The problem didn't change when I used a different video output module. However - DirectX (DirectDraw) seems to deactivate that Aero Glass theme on its own. Also I used automatic video deinterlacing. It seems not to stutter at all, but of course it strips the whole desktop of the Aero Glass design. But otherwise the image and quality seems perfect.

Perhaps this could help to get an idea how to fix this issue? It'd be awesome to be able to leave the whole thing at Direct3D with all the visual style etc. and use fullscreen on my secondary screen.

Other than that - really great work! HDMI works - it even auto-switches to HDMI-Audio once I activate my TV. This is really awesome!

Thanks for the help in advance!

dS.
