Streaming video with h264 embeded webcam

Postby olga.krupina » 20 Aug 2011 01:03

I have a webcam that has h264 embedded. Using MacOS and latest VLC to stream.
As I see now, I am not getting video in h264 (so that will not to transcode it that will speed up streaming) rather just raw video.
Is it possible to do with qtcapture module now? Can it recognize from the camera?
Thanks!

I tried to do the same on Windows. VLC was able to understand that it supports H264: opening "Device Properties" dialog, I was able to see H264 in the list of possible "compression" methods, but after choosing it, got the error message "The format is not currently available".
Please help if it is possible to do!

VLC 1.2 will support input from any QTKit compatible input device. This basically means every device which can be used with iChat, etc.

However, VLC will fetch the video through a raw input format through QTKit. So, I fear that your camera's H.264 feature isn't supported.
