G2M4 Codec Compatibility

Postby wolfspirit » 05 Sep 2011 12:36

Hi, AFAIK VLC cannot open video files with G2M4 codec. Can you add functionality for this in a future release? Or can codecs somehow be installed to work with VLC?

It seems at least some code has been added to FFmpeg last month. So VLC might support these files in upcoming releases (maybe in 1.2.x).

G2M4, really, in VLC?

it appears though that the code referenced above was ment for FFmpeg to be at least able to distinguish g2m2, g2m3 and respectively g2m4 encoding, nothing more.

I do know that mplayer uses existing codecs DLLs and is somehow able to emulate Windows calls. But it crashes when playing g2mX encoded videos on linux and macosx. Perhaps it would be possible to update Windows emulation layer or use libwine. I presume that bucause I have successfully installed and used SMplayer in Crossover.

I'm not sure if VLC can handle external codecs the way mplayer does. Perhaps Jean-Baptiste could tell if it would be possible to use libwine and Citrix G2M.dll with VLC.

It could be possible, of course, but this goes against our philosophy. I would prefer finding some samples of G2m4 and pay someone to reverse the codec and put it in FFmpeg.

Oh, that would be excellent! Could I ask you to please find someone? Samples of G2M[2,3,4] are here http://samples.mplayerhq.hu/V-codecs/G2M4/ or I could provide some more.

Jean-Baptiste, I really would like to help providing those; could you please suggest place where I could upload them and specify in detail what exactly you would need? I have dozen of meetings in 2560x1440 and 1920x1200.

My mac clients can't view my gotomeeting video presentations - not even with flipmac. I'm praying that VLC talent can make this happen. You requested more samples during this thread. Here is my contribution: http://www.wealthrock.com/pdf/webinars/ ... chives.pdf

Any progress on this matter? WMP in windows 8 has become unreliable in playing videos of the g2m4 codec so.

This looks like the latest progress http://codecs.multimedia.cx/?p=512

Thanks for all who've been working on this. If anyone needs another sample for reverse engineering, here's one:

Hello, sorry for my "english". :)
Little question. How to convert video webinar "GoToMeeting" (G2M3, G2M4) to another video format, such as h264 ?

"C:\\input.wmv" is the input file (G2M4, width=1024, height=768, fps=29.97, WMA2, mono, 44100)

Command line example:

"C:\\Program Files\vlc-2.1.0\vlc.exe" -vvv "C:\\input.wmv" :sout=#transcode{vcodec=h264,vb=800,scale=1,fps=15,width=1024,height=768,acodec=mp4a,ab=96,channels=1,samplerate=44100} :std{access=file,mux=avi,dst="C:\\output.avi"}

But... does not work. :?:

Do not put H264 in avi.
GoToMeeting samples, vlc version 2.1.1.

Command line example:

"C:\\Program Files\vlc-2.1.1\vlc.exe" -vvv "C:\\g2m4.wmv" :sout=#transcode{vcodec=h264,vb=1024,scale=1,fps=15,width=1280,height=1024,acodec=mp4a,channels=1} :std{access=file,mux=mp4,dst="C:\\g2m4.output.avi"} --start-time=0 --stop-time=30 --avi-index=1 vlc://quit

But... does not work. :?:
