how to reudce horizontal width more than what seems to be the limit?

I think there's a minimum size set so VLC would have to be recompiled to change that.

You could have a look at some of the VLC skins (some are small/minimal; although most of though will open the video in a separate window):

It also might be possible to edit one of the skins to have a smaller minimum width (using the VLC Skin Editor).

is it hard to recompile vlc or edit a skin to just make it a little smaller? thanks for the advice and skins suggestions but i don't know if i wanna invest alot of time over a minimal change and i'm ok with vlc's default skin. tho a skin with blank screen as the the default instead of a vlc cone and nothing would be nice. anyway it should be defult in the update. thanks.
