Aspect Ratio problems with IPTV.

Postby wazer » 30 Jul 2011 03:51

Hello guys, im a lucky user of udp IPTV and im ofcouse using VLC for it i see no other ways to stream all my channels from a windows machine perfect....... HOWEVER....

Im using the latest version 1.1.11
Im not able to use aspect ratio fully in 16:9 it always show as it was in 4:3. But when the commercials comes up it shows as it was in 16:9, and goes back to 4:3 when commercials is done.

Another note, almost everytime you try to change aspect ratio to any desired needs, vlc hangs for about 20-40 seconds you can wait or you have press the ESC button on the keyboard before you can right click within vlc gain access to all the context menu again etc again, tho the iptv streams continue and the picture is still showing normal without any interruptions.

This also applies when trying to enable/disable the scale feature under right click > video > scale.

The funny thing is i am also testing an old version of vlc 1.0.5 version. In this version theres no problem at all with scaling/aspect ratio bugging/hanging. Tho the aspect ratio works the opposit way for 16:9 to 4:3. Everytime commercials comes up it changes to 4:3 and when going back to showing the actually movie again it stays at 4:3 even tho forced it to be 16:9.

So im a totally on bare foot, are their any way i can help with debugging, and perhaps make it alot more easy for the coders? to see what actually goes wrong. I can do whatever you say, just write down step by step, what i need todo in order to give you more information if you need it.

ps. my appdata/vlc folder was not shared between 1.1.11 and 1.0.5, just to make that clear they have their own settings folder each :).

Just to make this clear, i have tested over 5 different machines, all of them with different hardware, and they all do the same thing as described.

They are running windows 7 either x64 or x86, if that helps anything.

regards wazer.

I forgot to post a picure showing some codecs information and with 16:9 selected and still showing as it was in 4:3.

I use dual monitor so thats why theres an extra picture in the top with the codec information :).

Could you capture us small part of the stream, so we could replicate this?

Yes im not sure how to exact do it. Is it just the record button, and then zip/rar and upload it to a place?

Yes.

Okay thank you. Im am now trying to do it, sometimes it shows normal and other times its vice versa.

Is is it possible to record in another format via command line or something?, because im not sure if you want files over 1gb just for about 10minutes?.

And do i need to record between movie > commercial and then movie again?, or does that not matter at all?. Thanks again for the quick replys.

I just found out how i could reproduce it!!!.

When im starting vlc and watching one channel it shows in 16:9, then swapping to another tv channel it shows in 4:3 even after it should still be forced to 16:9.

I have successfull recorded a sample around 200mb, sorry i could not get it lower.

The first 32 seconds is from the tv television x-files, then it swaps to commercials, and swaps back to x-files again after 5 minutes.

I ran a test in mediaplayer just to see if it changed aspect ratio, and it did twice when starting commercial at around 32 seconds(16:9) and ending commercial at around 5:20 minutes(4:3).

Here's the link for it.

This is hosted private at my own host, so there should not be any problems with full speed of 100mbit or higher.:). Thank you.

edit:

I noted another thing, i was able to select two 16:9 in vlc context menu, i took a screen for you.

Here you go. Image

No delays on aspect ratio change in here under Win32. The second 16:9 might have come if you have add that value to Custom aspect ratios list

Sorry i have not been around for some time, had a fallback in my life :)

Anyways im here again and i see there still problems with the subject.

I have recorded a new vlc record for you, and can you look at it and explain to me why the heck you cant change the aspect ratio for it to 16:9 / 16:10 ?.

Commercials shows perfect and i dont need to set 16:9 on it but when the channels are going to tv shows, its like 16:9 / 16:10 is toally blocked or vlc cannot figure it out to apply the settings..

Here's the download. http://www.buy-more.dk/wazer/vlc-record ... 5-0205.zip 40 megabyte

For me its still the same size 4:3, i ofcouse renamed the AppData\Roaming\vlc folder before i tested it out with new RC version.
