The width of the "extended settings menu" window (parameter names on the left) is not adjustable.
As a result some text items are not readable. (Probably not all languages are affected.)

You have done enough. I have asked from j-b if I should resurrect old ticket http://trac.videolan.org/vlc/ticket/3887 for it, but he hasn't answered me...
