Please embed VLC media player in Subtitle Workshop due to low number of supported formats, mp4 etc.
VLC is open software, doesn't need additional codecs, end SW developers would have a loot less to worry about, as of video formats, and focus only to subtitle editing functionality.
I like SW, but VLC player would really improve its compatibility.

I think you need to ask the people at Subtitle Workshop to do it. They would need to borrow source code from VLC, which as you say is open source. The people at VLC can't do it for them.
