vlc crashes windows when trying to play mkv file

whenever i try to play this specific .mkv file using vlc media player, my windows (win xp sp3) crashes (blue scree of death error), but it doesn't (and plays perfectly) when i try to play it with windows media player classic (using k lite codec pack v7). below is the media info of the file.
am using vlc v 1.1.7
