Sound stutters on Aspire one d255-2bqkk

Postby georgesdev » 28 Feb 2011 15:00

Using vlc 1.1.7 on Windows XP to play videos on an Acer Aspire one (model d255-2bqkk). Audio stutters once every roughly 10 seconds. While the images are good.
I tried raising the number of seconds that vlc buffers (from 1/3 of a second to 30 seconds) and it did not change a thing.

Below is extract of the debug messages. Does someone know what is happening?

Thanks, Georges

FYI: the same video files play well on other pcs under Linux or Windows Vista.

Also, a strange phenomenon I just found:
if I plug a usb memory key, the problem goes away, even if vlc is not playing the video from that usb key.

You have a driver problem then. Try increasing the caching.

Bonjour Jean-Baptiste,
I said above:
I tried raising the number of seconds that vlc buffers (from 1/3 of a second to 30 seconds) and it did not change a thing.
Are you suggesting something different?
Also, I was suspecting that my firmware was outdated, so I checked, but in fact it was already the latest (nm10 chipset driver).

I would also like to hear from vlc users which netbook they used successfully for playing videos (mainly divx and xvid, but also .mpg and .img).

Are you running Skype? Recently I have had an audio stutter problem with VLC when Skype is running.

no I was not using skype, although I installed skype on that machine. Only used skype once on that machine, but I've watched videos at least 10 times and always got the problem.

I've got my money back for that notebook, and have now bought a samsung notebook that works well with vlc.
It's an NC110 if someone is interested.

Thanks for the replies

I can only think of a driver issue.
