VLC Ver 1.1.5

Postby Steveh24 » 05 Dec 2010 00:04

It would appear from the number of posts and my own experiences that ver 1.1.5 does not work and the problems I have such as hanging when trying to shut the program down and refusing to play mkv files is a problem shared by many and I have found that the only solution is to uninstall ver 1.1.5 and install ver 1.1.4 which seems to work ok for me.

I guess as the software is free we can't moan too much, but it would be nice if it was properly tested before releasing it and I just hope they fix all the problems in ver 1.1.6 or I may have to look for an alternative player, Videolan have not themselves any favours with their latest version of VLC

People complain all the times for each release, you know...

Hanging when trying to shut the program was an issue on XP in 1.1.4, and people complained about it way more than for 1.1.5

I think the problem is that it may work perfectly on the PCs used to buuld VLC, but to properly test it, you need a wide array of testers with varying hardware. That tester pool seems to be us :D We complain and they try and fix it. I'd imagine also that it is quite difficult to fix something that is working perfectly on your own system.

So all we can do is try it and if it works, great, if not, downgrade back to a version that does whilst informing the developers here.
