Save Adjustments and Effects per video file

Postby pauly » 18 Nov 2010 10:03

I like using the Adjustments and Effects feature to fix some video files, like tuning contrast, colour, etc. The only problem is that I have to redo those adjustments every time I want to watch that video.

I think it would be nice to be able to automatically save and apply adjustments made to video files so that they take effect every time I load that video.

Edit: In addition to this, saving the volume level per file would also be nice.

These options have been requested multiple times.

Aspect ratio is another thing that makes sense to apply every time.

I would also prefer if settings were stored in the same location as the video file itself, or in a hidden subdirectory. So if I ever move the videos, the saved settings move with them. And if I delete the folder, I delete the settings as well, and it doesn't keep settings for videos that no longer exist.

Problem with that approach is that VLC cannot always write data to same directory where the input is.

Right, but problems are to be solved, especially when they are easy.

[x] Try to save per-video settings into video folder...
[x] If video folder is not writable, write settings into VLC settings dir/file

That seems like a pretty minor problem there, I hope you're not going to abandon this idea just because of that. I use Picasa, which writes data to every directory that has my photos, and I've never had a permission problem. I don't think I would ever have a permission problem if VLC did something similar. In the event that a directory is not writeable, just display a message and let the user fix it.

Problematic locations are all network streams, DVD playback, CD audio playback etc.

And what I say here doesn't not represent official videolan stance. Patches are always welcome.

Another request for this (instead of creating a new topic.)

With the number of times that this has been requested, I am a bit surprised that it has not yet been implemented. It seems like something that would be easier to code than many other features -- if only taking into account "Open -> Load -> Select Filter" over the system doing it automatically based on the videos' file name or hashes -- even if it is not at the top of the "to do" list.

It isn't that simple: you need to store all this data...
