Any chance soon! To have Aspect Ratio override?

For questions and discussion that is NOT (I repeat NOT) specific to a certain Operating System.

Any chance soon! To have Aspect Ratio override?

Postby johnber » 18 Jan 2004 02:37

First post. Hi everybody! :D
I'am using Videolan to be able to serve and play Mostly divx between my Windows xp pro machine and my wife beautiful new 17ins g4 laptop running mac OS X 8)
it works quite nice Thank you !
Sure beats the crappy quicktime which i still have to make work with a single divx (doctored or not by divx doctor. There is no sound or it just freeze.. But i digress..)
only problem with videolan is that i have to fully download the movie on her machine first. Otherwise i have stuttering problems over the 802.11g link. :(
if i may suggest ! 2 things are missing to videolan.

one is the lack of an aspect ratio override "a la" BSPlayer or Zoom.
Any chance you guys will implement this feature soon?

the other would be a brightness/contrast function..
i know one can go thru hoops to do it with the display adaper settings but an implementation at the player level would be great.

This would make Videolan a truly classy player.
There is a lot of Divx done by people who do not have a clue how to set the aspect ratio properly on an otherwise nicely encoded movie.
Thanks again for the good work
Johnber :D

Ths stuttering problem is most likely caused by your wireless link not being fast enough. I dont get any stuttering when I stream stuff to my PowerBook G4, but I use a 100Mbit ethernet network.

You can change the contrast/brightness etc in VLC, although it is easier to do with the Windows version than the Mac version.

I dont know what you mean by aspect ratio over-ride, but I can set VLC to display movies in 16:9 or 4:3.

Probably..I hoped though 802.11.g would be sufficient but it isn't :(

That's because it's in the preferences.

don't you think that a button for the most common format on the control module or at least a tab in the video menu control, would be more appropriate ! than digging in the preferences.!

Are you offering to do it?

It's not that simple. If it was that simple we would have done it.
Just search the forums the question has been asked at least about 6 times this month.

I wasn't trying to be offending :o just voicing an opinion 8) .
The Mac's drives me nuts anyway with their twisted logic!
Anybody who design system where you have to trash your CD's to Dismount them. Or still use single mouse buttons in the 21 Century  has some serious issues which we won't discuss here!

thanks for what's already there and Keep up the good work : John

Like a system where you have to press start to stop your computer is that much better.
