VLC for iPad freezing.

After the recent update of VLC 1.1.0 for iOS, namely my iPad, .avi files freeze every 10 minutes or so. I'm forced to hit the home button and try and get back into VLC, which ends up in a crash. After a second attempt to get back into VLC, I can get back in but the position where the video froze isn't held. I have tried rebooting the iPad, reinstalling the application and removing all movies but one .avi with no luck. Anybody else having this problem? Also, any suggestions to prevent this from happening?

YES! I'm having this exact problem from the update. I actually started remembering the time so I can restart the video, but it takes me several home key hits or (top right key?) hits to get it to play video again.

If someone has an ipa for the last version, I would love it.

Yes, I've got the same problem! The program crashes every 12 minutes. Evenwhen when playing .avi files that didn't let the program crash before theupdate. I will try restoring my iPad to a former backup so I will get the old version back...that should be the workaround until there will be an even newer Version...

It's sad because I liked the changes they made! Keep up the good work!

Yup, it's happening. My AVI videos freeze every 10-15 minutes, and i'm forced to press the home button, wait, and go back into the app and fast forward back to the right moment.

VLC's awesome...hope this gets rectified soon!!!

Yep yep... Same thing. Happens every few minutes. If I wait for a minute or two, I can restart VLC. Happens with pretty much every avi file I've thrown at it. Ditto above request about anyone with previous version of the ipa.

Also, I sent applidium.com an email since they're the guys releasing VLC for the iphone/ipad.

Same issue. Freezes every ten minutes. So bummed. I hope they release a fix soon! I love my VLC!

I have the same problem, the solution to continuing without losing your place or the app freezing seems to be:

When the video freezes after 10-15 min
* Press the skip forward button once or twice (nothing will appear to happen)
* Press the done button in the top left
* then just reclick on your video and it should be fine and exactly where it left off

Hope this helps in the meanwhile as any other variations seem to cause the app to freeze and other hassles

Vlc on ipad totally locks up after a few minutes of play.. previous version did not do this.. I am wondering if there is a way to get the old one back or it's back to handbrake to convert and use the default video player to they get this issue corrected

A very irritating bug. It seems to be a memory problem because if I quit VLC, start up another app, quit that one and go back to VLC it will run for another 10 minutes. Please fix this! Your app is awesome but useless at the moment.

It seemed to be a bit better before the last update. I agree with the post above, this is an awesome app, and long overdue in order to save time and resources coverting everything to m4a, but this is making it virtually useless at the moment...

I have the same problem it worked great with the version which required you to delete the file within Itunes from the VLC application. Since I installed the update it crashes every10 min and I have to exit the application for a couple of min.

Has anybody seen any official comments from the VLC player app team?

Just wanted to bump this up. I too am experiencing this annoying freeze. Otherwise VLC is the best media player around. VLC is my default player on every PC and laptop I own.

Same issue here. Freezes after about 10 mins. of playback on videos that worked just fine prior to the update. I have to hold down the lock button to get the "power off" option to come up, then hold the home button down until the app force quits, to make it work again.

I have been using the Netflix app quite a bit more often as a result.

I'm very close to deleting this app. There are few things as irritating as a movie freezing in the middle of an intense moment. Do the developers even care? They seem more concerned with the Apple distribution model than with bringing out a working app. If you don't like the AppStore, use Cydia guys!

One of the posts above makes reference to this workaround so I tried it.....

When the app freezes, do the following
1. Tap the screen once so the controls appear.
2. Tap the right arrow (ffwd) twice.
3. Click the 'Done' button, in the top left corner.

This will return you to the selection screen, where you can tap your video again and it "should" restart where it froze.......

Not perfect, but it definately beats having to crash the app, and start another app, then go back to VLC or having to completely reboot the ipad.....which will take a couple of minutes.
