How to see the total playtime for a playlist?

Postby smodtactical » 12 Oct 2010 16:28

When you add a bunch of files to VLC, the playlist shows all the individual run times for the files but how can you see the total playtime for all files?

I can't add the files to winamp to see this because winamp doesn't recognize them.

Thanks.

Are these files movie files? (And Winamp doesn't recognize them because system codecs are not installed?)

'Cuz I didn't think there were any audio types that Winamp doesn't recognize.

I know it would usually be more convenient to be able to see the total playing time as you add files to the list, but...

I have a batch file that takes a saved m3u playlist and produces a CD Track List with playing times.

I'm writing a batch file program that does what you want with .xspl playlists for video files by passing it the saved playlist file.

Video Filename Whatever #1 - xhrs:xxmin:xxsecs
Video Filename Whatever #2 - xhrs:xxmin:xxsecs
Video Filename Whatever #3 - xhrs:xxmin:xxsecs
Video Filename Whatever #4 - xhrs:xxmin:xxsecs
Video Filename Whatever #5 - xhrs:xxmin:xxsecs

Total Playing Time - xhrs:xxmin:xxsecs

(No limit on how many items can be on the list.)

These are going into a book I'm writing on "Windows Batch File Programming for Total Beginners and Power User Wannabes".
It will have more than a couple of dozen usable as-is example programs like these included in it with complete step-by-step documentation as to how and why they work.

Not all of them pertain to VLC topics of course. It is to be an ebook in pdf format.

Are you interested? Email me akbeaman@yahoo.com and use Batch Files as the subject of your message. I will email you back and let you know when the book is available.

Although the ticket #4252 has been closed, it had been added to the features of version 2.1, which has been crossed out on the ticket. So, I'm hoping this feature will be coming out in a future release? I'm a video DJ and VLC is the main program I use to sell my services, and plan out my mixes. This would make my life a lot easier! Thanks for your attention to this!
