Scene filter gui

I know that 'image output' is now the scene filter and I read this topic so I know how to take caps via the command line. I was wondering how do you do that with the vlc GUI, though.

I saw that the scene filter is under Video > output modules > scene filter but I don't know how to select it, I mean with older version you just had to select 'image video output' from the dropdown menu under modules and the video would start playing with the audio only and the caps were saved to the folder I specified. But now the scene filter is not in the dropdown so I don't know hot to select it.

I guess my question in short is, how do I select the scene filter in order to take automated caps but not with the command line?

I cap movies almost daily and it's really inconvenient if I have to use the command line everytime I want to cap something.

Uhm, it's not there either. I even upgraded to v1.2 git, the same one you're using but I don't have scene as an option:

Hey thanks, I know. It's there but if I click on it it's just a list of options to configure the filter(image name, path, filetype, etc). Even after I configured it, if I start vlc, it just shows the video but it's not actually taking screencaptures.

With the old version you just had to select 'Image video output' from the dropdown menu if you wanted caps and 'Default' if you wanted to play the video, I expected a similar behavior for 'scene' but it's not in the dropdown.

I can't use 'scene' unless I'm starting vlc via command line, isn't that possible via gui only? Better, you need to take a few screencaps with vlc but you can't use the command line, what do you do?

I don't think that's what Barbara's asking for. She wants to screen-cap automatically with the gui, but there's no actual way to "turn on" auto screen-caping. The Scene filter on the left that you're pointing to adjusts the settings for the screencaps but doesn't let her screencap automatically. Also, there seems to be no check box for "scene" to click to "turn on" the auto screen-cap feature in the supplied video filters either. Nor anywhere else...

What do you mean with first box? I put 'scene' where it says Video output filter mode, the other is Video filter mode and like I said it won't work either way.

Because yes, I prefer to keep people away from nightly builds rather than having to deal with tons of messages like "My computer is broken since I installed the nightly build" as it has already happened in the past.

I am also having this exact problem: It isn't in the filter list, it can't be selected in the output modules. I can modify the parameters. I am on 1.1.7 as well. It makes it difficult because I'm trying to get screencaps from the middle of a huge video, and not being able to fiddle with the interface easily makes that more difficult.

To all of you having issues with this, I found the answer on a site that showed how to do it for a Mac. What Ludrax said was correct. You type "scene" in the first box. The one under Video Filter Module. Not for Video Output Filter module. Under Output Modules-Scene filter make sure you have a Directory path prefix in there so it knows where to send the pics. If it's not filled out, I'm not sure where it puts 'em, if anywhere at all. Save those settings and when you play your video, it will still show up, unlike in previous versions, but the playback will not be smooth, but that's 'cause it's grabbing as it plays. This worked for me, but as Ludrax also said, I don't know how to turn this mode off 'cause when you go back into settings, the box that you put "scene" in is blank, so it's not like you can clear it to turn it off. I'll have to play around with it more to figure that out, but I just figured out how to do it so I wanted to let people know on the thread I read that seems to deal directly with this.

Okay, figured out how you turn it off. It automatically resets the filter setting to off when you open Tools-Preferences again. So, when you go in to update the Filename prefix or something, you have to remember to type "scene" into the Video Filter Module box again.
