flv files no longer play

Postby purevw » 23 Aug 2010 15:53

Recently, all my .flv files will no longer play with VLC. They play fine in Kaffeine and Mplayer, so I know that the files are not corrupted. I simply do not understand VLC well enough to know where to look for the correct plugin or the proper steps to troubleshoot. I get no error messages of any kind. When I open a 5 minute file, I see the total time in the lower right bar for only a split second. It is like VLC goes through the whole file in under a second. I wish I could give more details. All other file types work perfectly. ".flv" files are the only ones that won't work.
I run OpenSuSE 11.3 and VLC 1.1.3. VLC worked perfectly until just a couple of days ago. I have reinstalled VLC and tried going back to older versions, to no avail. I have also tried the 1.2 beta, which crashes with a segmentation fault when I try to access the "Audio" tab in the "Settings" window.

Sorry for the late reply. For whatever reason, I never received an e-mail notification concerning your response even though I am subscribed to the thread. I am not sure what you mean by "posting a small sample". I do have a bit more information though. I found that VLC does play a small portion of my "flv" files correctly. I also found that the files that play show only one video and one audio track. The ones that fail can show up to 40 tracks of audio and video. The files play with other programs, so I assume they are not corrupt. VLC is apparently interpreting the codec or tracks of the file incorrectly for some reason. If I examine the file in question with the "media info" extension of Konqueror, it shows only one mpeg audio and one VP6 video track, not the 40 or so mixed tracks that VLC shows. The files that play correctly seem to have AVC video and AAC audio.

I meant a video file, so that we can test it.
