Streaming doesn't work at all

Postby Lyris » 21 Apr 2005 20:52

Hey everyone,

I'm trying to receive a streaming video over the web.

The person at the other end is streaming an MPEG movie to me using the wizard. The options are set to:

Streaming Method: UDP Multicast
I go to http://www.whatismyip.com/ , and use the info from there so he can enter my IP address into the box.

Meanwhile I go to File > Open Network Stream, click UDP/RTP, enter the port (1234) and click OK. I get nothing.

I've also tried connecting my cable modem directly to my computer via USB (Usually it's on a router), and turned and kind of firewalls off. Same results, sadly... Can anyone help?

I don't think you want multicast, do you? Shouldn't it be a UDP unicast?

to stream over the web you should use :
* UDP if you are streaming to 1 person and know his IP address
* RTP, RTSP, HTTP or MMSH if you want to listen to several clients (this is what you must be looking for).

have a look at the streaming howto for some examples.

Thanks for the advice, I'll try it out again.
