Problem with srt and mts

Question. I tried playing a HD mts video file in VLC on mac and have renamed my srt sub to the same title with the movie. Everytime when I tried playing the mts file, there will be no sound and picture unless I unload my srt sub. That happens to the rest of my other mts movie so I am pretty sure that my srt sub is not corrupted. Just wondering if anyone can help me out with this problem. Tried loading the sub manually too but the same problem persists. Is srt not compatible with mts in VLC? Does anyone else have the same problem. It's like when you put a .srt beside your .mts and try to open it with Vlc, it wont open. Been trying with different files these past few days but none works.

I am using Imac 27 i7 running on 4gb of Ram with Ati Radeon 5750 graphics.

Does this just happen with mts files? Are you seeing any errors in the message window?

I can confirm, and second, likech22’s problems with playing back m2ts files with external subtitle (SRT) files.

If there are no subs, VLC plays the TS or TP file.

If there is a subtitle file present, and is automatically detected by VLC, the file just doesn’t play at all.

If I manually open the SRT file whilst playing back the m2ts file, the playback would immediately pause/freeze until I stop or close the playback window.

The following are the error messages that keep repeating (every ~20 seconds) if I do not stop the playback:

These errors don’t seem to appear when VLC doesn’t detect the subtitle file (i.e. when it assumes there is no subtitle file).

I’ve experienced this problem since 1.0.x, and it’s still present at the most current version available (1.1.2).

Any feedback, and a possible solution, to this issue would be much appreciated. I don’t like having to convert my files to mkv just that I am able to use subtitles…

Guess there’s no way around this problem, right?

I really do not want to have to convert the files into MKVs just so that I can view the external subs. Not only is it time–consuming, but also a waste of resources.

Fingers crossed. Hopefully, VLC will come up with an update that sole this problem......

Apparently, there are two active tickets on the matter: http://trac.videolan.org/vlc/ticket/3075 and http://trac.videolan.org/vlc/ticket/3516.

This problem has been in existence for a very long time. Just look at when the above tickets were created — to me, they obviously don't believe it to be of utmost priority.

Honestly, if there was another Mac client out there that could do the job, I would've moved on by now.

I have a minor question, not really a problem. How do I change the type face on the subtitles that are displayed (srt). They are of an awkward font and not what I'm used to seeing, moreover this happened when I upgraded to the latest version, which I really like. Any help out there??
