WMV files not displayed in the Open File dialog

Postby Efcis » 26 Jul 2010 18:17

Hi

On my VLC 1.1.1 with XP SP2, surprisingly enough, the File Open... dialog does not display the available wmv files when using the default filter (multimedia files) ! I need to select the "all files" filter to make them appear. I had the same behavior with VLC 1.1.0.

Did I missed something here ?

Thanks for your test and the screenshot. I'm still puzzled by this behavior here... What can prevent these wmv files to be displayed ?

Can you make me a favor and indicate the complete Media Files filter string from the source file please ? (I just can read the start of this string from the dialog). I'd like to try other file extensions.

Thanks !

Are you sure, those are actually .wmv and not something similar, like .wmx or .wmvf?

Hi j-b

Unfortunately, yes, I'm sure :-(

Actually, I could check the entire Media Files filter string, and it appears that ANY file with an extension over *.ps in this list is not displayed, whatever the file extension is ! Maybe it is related to the length of this string, the Windows dialog API, and/or my system version (XP SP2) ?

Bump this thread up during weekend so I can test this on my XP machine when I get it back.

Hi j-b et al.

I finally found what was wrong.

It is a limitation of XP SP2, and the hotfix #938635 must be applied. Check http://support.microsoft.com/kb/938635 for more details.

Thanks for your help anyway !
