VLC - Wav sound ends before the file is finished

Postby WiLavd » 10 Feb 2010 17:50

I have some questions regarding some specific wav files. These are quite short audio clips from Computer Games not music as such mostly audio files of different voice actor's lines. Some are longer but generally they end at approx. 4 or 5 seconds.

The problem is that many of them ends not exactly at the second but some hundredths of seconds above or less:
For example 1.25 seconds, 3.06, 4.30 etc...

The last word is at best muffled but most of the time the sound is cut off mid-sentence. These are mostly fast lines of words. This problem also affects music files with the music ending abruptly at the end.

When one compares Windows Media Player can handle this and various audio editing programs playback, but not VLC Media Player at the moment.

This is not a big issue, I admit, but I wonder if this can be fixed in an easy way by those working on the program? If it's not worth the trouble, then please leave a note. Either way this issue is not related to most ordinary music files which have been carefully edited but probably lesser files such as these game files.

(Edit: Changed the Title of the Subject to a more appropriate one.)

Re: Wav files; incorrect playback

Sorry for spamming my own thread, but is there a way for me to fix this issue by myself by adjusting the margins or preferences in the player so the playback function correctly for audio files of this sort?

Or is this something only the developers can fix with an update?

Thanks for any help.

incorrect playback of wav files

Okay, is it something that maybe will be fixed in the future or is it just a small adjustment that is needed?

I think otherwise VLC is the best media player to use in regards to simplicity and stability, and would not like to switch player or rename all those files to be able to play them.

(Sorry if I didn't use the search feature, but I didn't really know what to search for this time...)

It needs quite big changes. Currently core doesn't wait that VOUT or AOUT is ready or that they have played their buffer.

Thanks for shedding some light over this issue.
Hopefully it can be solved by those who work on the VLC player's development some time this year.
Until then I will use Windows Media player for those specific files or some audio editor.

I am also hoping this will be fixed soon. I use VLC on linux and windows and I hate having to use a different program to play my WAV files.

It isn't just a WAV problem, mp3's end early as well. I found that out when trying to learn French off t'internet. Had to change firefox plugin to use media player classic instead. I hope the brains out there fix this minor bug (major coding?) sometime, as in every other way VLC 1.05 is a superb player.

Cheers.

It is same with all files. But the problem is easier to spot on files which have action immediately at start or at end.

I noted that there are problems with all wav files in VLC 1.1
sound is interrupted for 1 second many times during playback.

I am having the same problem with some .m4a songs. Can someone direct me to the ticket on trac? I couldn't find it by searching.
