Any progress in this matter? i heard that the new sdk and ndk help alot i dont know if there is a big change between the 2.1 and 2,2 system but with the new JIT system VLC on Android seems to be a need especially when people like xyplayer is charging for use of free codecs.... even with the licensing issue i would pay 2-5 bucks any day for a VLC port because of the ... VLC.

It's been 3 months since it's been indicated that it's being ported, so I'm not sure if it's still being worked on, if there's a need for testers or if it's just going to take a lot longer to port.
This is one of the biggest apps that at least I'm looking forward to being on android. Android did release a native C/C++ dev kit, if i'm not mistaken, so I thought it might have been ported faster than originally thought.

as did I i believe its is possible to do and i would be interested in seeing if any programmers on the VLC board would take this as a well... future project. I feel that the mobile development is now desperatly needing a VLC port. I'm aware that at the moment even with the dev tools i doubt that apple would allow this in their app store due to it being too competitive ( and the fact that they stand to lose money) but as for the android platform being a more liberal and open source style mobile OS system i feel the general population could benefit from VLC on a mobile port.

i really like to see a vlc-app on android. would make me buy one of those smartphones.

a clear statement if its possible or not would be nice.

i think google has some limitations for their gingerbread-release. maybe the minimum of 1GHZ will make videoapps a lot easier.

Guys, CorePlayer 2.0 is coming soon to Android, Iphone, S60 v5, Windows Mobile (& WP7).

CorePlayer has long been known as the VLC/mplayer equivalent for smartphones. I suppose many of you have by now also heard of RockPlayer which plays formats like flv,mkv etc on Android. My apologies if this topic of request is aimed at wanting to use VLC's other famed functions on Android i.e streaming.
