KernelEx should be the - open source/free of course - suggested solution for them, IMHO !
Check this forum too, many answers there, for example:
and the last VLC media player 1.0.0 from Videolan work with this version
and the last VLC media player 1.0.0 from Videolan work with this version
Not the latest version (4.0 final 2): i used the 3.x series in the past... I hope to try the new version soon.Have you checked it?
VLC 0.8.6 is the latest release with support for this operating system.
Please note that these versions of Windows are not officially supported. No VideoLAN developer uses any of these systems, which makes them hard to support. VLC should mostly work with them, but some incompatibilities might appear. You might need to download The Microsoft Layer for Unicode on Windows 95/98/Me Systems. The two MSLU files need to be put in the C:\Windows\System\ folder.
Warning: The following package is not up-to-date with the latest official version of the software. When using an out-of-date version, you may encounter important bugs or security holes.
I am quite disappointed... I tried it some months ago. All i received was crash screen.
FFDShow is in my system only for solving of compatibility issues. Surely it is not a good decompressor. I tried it with Progdvb for Mpeg2 decoding of digital TV. IT IS TERRIBLE.
FFDShow is mainly a reason why i maintain special Mpeg2, Xvid and sound codec for quality purposes such as dvds... I got one old CRT monitor by IBM. Its image is crystal clear
Hi ,
you don't use KernelEX v4.0 ?
see : http://www.msfn.org/board/kernelex-4-0- ... ntry872324
(my post #207)
and I can say the last version VLC 1.0.1 work better than the prévious 1.00 with KernelEX v4.0 final 2
I've also spent the last day or two in the same endless search for the existence of a Firefox 3.6.3 VLC Plugin.i don't want to spend the next 3 days looking through over 50 differently directed links, sublinks, etc., from and to multiple domains trying to operate a VIDEO system...no matter how great it is (or free). And while I admire the --please stay polite-- out of the 24-year-old who invented it, the PC and/or Internet were not even invented when I graduated University; however, the inventor might have liked some of our Louisiana mushrooms, which I see he's very fond of--genial, igneal, mon ami!. [/i][/b] And while I've made more advances than most my age at keeping up, the information I've found here is stifling, as was the first query I made to this forum (seemingly squashed by the same fungi-loving administrator for allegedly discussing outside conversion programs (all because I had included a link to a Faq and Help page for Ap**an to show an example of something that was both basic, UNDERSTANDABLE, and COMBINED ON ONE PAGE.

Hello all , for Windows 9x/Me users ;
Those guys are AMA-ZING...I can tell you that the last VLC 1.1.4 work fine on my W98SE with that release
My 12 year old process came with Win98. I ran WinME until 2008.Re: VLC 1.1.x CPU Features

You cannot expect modern software to run on 12 year old processors...
What a blithering idiot!!!!!!If you are using any OS version below XP SP3 then you should all go somewhere and die quietly.
Software will always move forward to newer things (for better or worse) and if you can't move with it, you shouldnt be using a computer.

Some of us PREFER OUR PRIVACY and ON THE NEWER WINDOWS OS's,YOUR PRIVACY IS SEVERLY COMPROMISED!!
Newer Software is often over bloated with crap one doesnt want or need, doesnt look as nice,etc..... (Same with most NEW things)
My favourite os is Win98se .. I think it looks THE NICEST,is the most user friendly,etc.......
That is simply not true. Exploit of modern vulnerabilities are certainly more likely to hit more recent Windows versions, but Win9x has had its share of remotely exploitable and exploited bugs. I'd bet some Win9x worms like Opaserv are even still alive on the Internet. The NT-line of Windows OS's have a terrible history of being comprimized remotely via web-based exploits. Win-9x/me have never been vulnerable to network worms (for example)
