yep thats the big weekness of vlc
having trouble with some mpg files
the 1.10 rc and 1.20 nightly versions
seems to have an updated mpg decooder
which is a bit better
some of the broken mpg files are now playable
but not all
but the perfect media player doesn't exists (atm)
all media players have there weakness
vlc weakness is rmvb and (bad or unusual encoded) mpg files,
not able creating multiple screenshots (with it many mpc users would switch to vlc....
)
mpc hc has mainly problemes with audio files (some mp3 files unplayable, problems with losless (flac/ape) compatibility)
smplayer has no audio cd support under windows and very bad dvd playback + way of reading dvds seems to stress dvd drives more than other players
others like gom and kmplayer have even more problems
but overall vlc is the best player compared to the others
file support is very good (best of all players, even if u can add codecs to mpc hc like real and quicktime alternatives) and playback of streaming files is no problem too
and one of its advantages is the great support here
